Dear Toward Freedom Supporter,

We have a burgeoning movement to cover now and we need your help! We are delighted to see the Occupy Wall Street Movement reignite the political imagination of America. By shedding light on historic levels of corruption and inequality, it has invigorated a worldwide movement for economic justice. The Arab Spring sparked this struggle, and was followed by the uprising in Wisconsin. Toward Freedom has covered these movements extensively, reporting from the street barricades and occupations, amplifying the voices of marginalized people, and connecting the dots between grassroots rebellions worldwide. In order to continue this reporting we need your financial support today. Please contribute to Toward Freedom.

What unites the various international revolts that have emerged this year is a common demand for freedom; freedom from oppression, corruption, poverty and injustice. As Egyptian labor organizer Kamal Abbas told Toward Freedom reporter Dan Read, the Arab Spring has proven that “the struggle for freedom is not limited to one nation.” That sentiment underlines Toward Freedom’s reporting and commitment to progressive movements worldwide.

Donate OnlineToward Freedom began in 1952 as a news source on liberation struggles in the global south, and that mission continues today. As Toward Freedom nears its 60th anniversary in 2012, we maintain our focus on people’s movements and stories that go ignored in most other media. We need your support to continue going strong.

Aside from our work online with TowardFreedom.com, Toward Freedom organizes public events aimed at raising awareness and discussions about global issues. We recently hosted a speaking event with Tijuana, Mexico-based community activist Macrina Cárdenas de Alarcón, who discussed the root causes of violence and migration along the US-Mexico border. And in December, we have organized an event in Burlington, VT with investigative journalist Greg Palast, whose new book uncovers the connections between the oil industry and global finance. His theme will be Why We Occupy: How Wall Street Picks the Bones of America.

From Los Angeles to Tahrir Square, Toward Freedom has provided participants’ perspectives on the hopeful grassroots struggles that are building a better world out of the wreckage of the old. To continue our coverage and accompaniment of these movements, we need your help.

Please donate to Toward Freedom today.
